September Rust wipe has been a long and very interesting wipe. Spring is over and Summer is upon us here in South Africa.

Thank you for being part of the wipe.

There was some amazing bases built and some of the players found new ways to use electricity to power up the turrets.

In the end, Lobo's iceberg base survived the no limits end of wipe Raid. The VG Team and friends won the raid against the Toxic Team and friends.

The poll has been running for two weeks and the sentiment of the Voodoo Rust SA player base painted a very clear picture. There will be no changed to the rules of the Rust Voodoo SA |Noob Friendly server.

How we measure the sentiment.

  • Any suggestions and votes to remove the KOS rules where added up together.
  • Any suggestion or votes to keep the rules the same where added up together.

The Results

The where some interesting suggestion and we will look into how and if we can implement it on there server.

The good news is there will be more purge events where the KOS rules are suspended during the event.

Thank you for taking part in the Poll it really helped to settle the discussion.  The server rules and setup might not be for everyone we never intended to make the server for everyone.

The server is for the noobs, weekend warriors and for the advanced players.

If everyone follows the rules it would be possible to Learn, Farm, Build, Raid and experience all the feeling’s Rust will make you experience.

Happy Easter

Once every in-game day an easter egg hunt will begin. You'll have 3 minutes to collect as many eggs as you can. The top 3 players are given special eggs as a reward. These eggs can be cracked open for various types of loot ranging from scrap all the way up to an M249!

If you don't make the podium, that's okay. The painted eggs you collect can be upgraded to Bronze eggs once you collect 10. If you collect 10 bronze eggs then you can upgrade to a silver egg, eventually all the way to gold!

There are various items available to help you during your hunt. The Easter Basket will allow instant pickup of eggs and the Bunny Onsie and Ears will provide you an advantage via Egg Vision.

Lets see the Photos of all the Onsie’s out there!!!!!

SavageNoodle Banned

Voodoo Gaming has been put in to disrepute due to one of the Rust Moderators.

SavageNoodle used his Moderators Tools to give him self Admin rights on the Rust VOODOO server.

During a raid that took place on the 21 December 2018 SavageNoodle was logged in as admin in game and had GOD mode activated.

We asked for the raid to be stopped. The VG team pulled back from the raid.

Server Lag Issues and Solutions

It has been a very laggy Rust Wipe on the Voodoo Server.

We have been doing tests to find out what the cause of the issues are.

It was not what we thought it would be.

First we had to check the server hardware to make sure the server can run the Rust server application. We confirmed that the hardware can run the server application.

The next step was to check if there was any data centre issues and the data centre reported that there are no issues and everything is running 100%. No network lag reported.

The last step was to check the server configuration and settings and here we found a lot of information pointing to the following possible causes.

  1. Server Upkeep time and Entities
  2. Server Seed and Map Size.

Server Upkeep time and Entities

Rust servers have a limit of how many Entities it can handle and how many new entities it can handle at the same time.

The longer the server upkeep time is on a server the bigger the bases are and bigger bases mean more entities. On busy servers this can cause server lag when players in big bases build fast or all players build at the same time.

Default Decay.upkeep_period_minutes “1440” (How many minutes does the upkeep cost last? 1440 = 24 Hours)

Current Decay.upkeep_period_minutes “9000” 6.25 Times longer than the default

All the suggestions point to returning the server Decay.upkeep_period_minutes back to the default setting.

Server Map Size

The Current server Map Size is bigger than the suggested maximum map size of 3000.

Solutions

Next wipe pick a map with a maximum map size of 3000.

Buy Maximum number of slots from the hosting Company.

Our Plan going forward

  1. Increase the server slots to the maximum amount of slots available form the hosting Company. We will implement this immediately. We will be monitoring the server performance for the rest of the wipe. If this do not resolve the server performance issue we will move the the next option.
  2. Return the Decay.upkeep_period_minutes back to the default setting of “1440” If this do not work we will move to the final step.
  3. Map size not bigger than 3000.

Our hope is that the first step will resolve the server performance.

All about electricity

Wire Tool

The fundamental connection between all these new items, the Wire Tool is a core component of electricity. To use it, simply equip, right click on an electrical object, select your choice on the wheel, and then connect to another object. You can also left click while dragging the wire to pin it to that part of the wall or floor.

 Small generator

The first step to powering anything is to find a source of electricity of course! That’s where the small generator comes into play. Placed on the ground or a shelf, the small generator produces power for up to 3 external sources. At the moment, it doesn’t require any fuel, but I expect that to change prior to this functionality going live.
